reissue of in demand classic.dubtraxx was new on the scene back in 2019 when they dropped this ep which has since become something of a mini-classic. it came on their own label rhythm n vibe and now this is seriously heavyweight gear gets reissued. soundbwoy request is especially dangerous, working plenty of dub, reggae and jungle motifs into a rugged garage structure and sounding utterly ruff in the process. towards 99 is no slouch either, albeit on a slightly housier tip than the raucous a-side. the -2000 tribute mix- of next millenium meanwhile sneaks out a few of the eerie tones you d expect to hear around the time that dubstep first started to emerge.

vinyl only , after a short break unison wax returns with a brand new four-track collection of music from the bossman himself, diego krause. the berliner took a year off in 2016, concentrating on other projects and letting the label have a rest, but now he’s back with a refined sound. unison wax embodies a more sophisticated aesthetic, with warm analogue hues and subtle textures to push things forward a little. after all, we couldn’t come back from a break without progressing, huh?! first out of the blocks is ‘nihilate’, which helps introduce this updated unison wax sound, crisp beats lock us into a groove in conjunction with a dainty selection of analogue effects and a funky little b-line. diego carefully adds new elements as the track progresses, keeping you interested right until the end. next is the title track, ‘rituals’, which kicks off with an insistent bassline and spellbinding percussion that keeps you gripped from the off. he throws in some claps to add energy and muted pads, which slowly rise to prominence, giving the track an emotive atmosphere which wraps itself around you. one for the eternal dreamers… flip the record over for side b and ‘dysfunction’, which turns things grimy. marauding beats and bass conspire to create a morose atmosphere. diego’s penchant for super sharp beats is present here again, and the energy builds slowly but surely. a new layer creeps in every few bars and sucks you right into the track’s lair. expertly done, and impossible to resist, this is darkside pressure at its best. ‘eudaimonia’ rounds things off, with more deep grooves. initially propelled by minimal percussion, the track really gets going when more beats are added. it maintains a laid back feeling and, while the drums are solid, the atmosphere is mostly quite soft with swirling pads keeping things light in the top end. when they fall away towards the end of the track we have a rather gnarly close to the composition, as the beats and bass take over. and there it is, the welcome return of unison wax – smooth and refined for 2017…

2022 repress - invisible city returns with the hotly anticipated reissue of amajovi jovi by durban’s o.g. kwaito giant, sandy b. originally self-released on cassette and a white label 12”, rumour has it sandy had to remake the tracks from memory because even he couldn’t find a copy. . in its original post-apartheid context, amajovi jovi was a sign of youthful subversiveness, rebellious creativity and a neck snapping rejection to the fascist groove of a silenced nation. while the pantsulla hustler nods to house legends like jamie principle and pal joey, its hip hop breaks and interludes show a clear affection for snoop dogg’s doggystyle. at its slowed down tempo however, this low-fi kwaito masterpiece turns away from its american influence and looks towards baldelli and his cosmos. best of all are sandy’s vocals— deep, melodic zulu rap, sung flippantly—the way that only a true gangster could. it now stands as one of the finest glimpses of 90s party music to ever be blasted at the underground parties of the south african townships. a huge fave of jamie tiller, tako and ice, we are proud to present a limited vinyl and cassette reissue from one of the godfathers of kwaito. remastered and restored from the original cassette tape. designed by zeitype.

dj, producer, composer and musician, dj st. paul is a multi-faceted artist who has been performing since 1984. under his pseudonym st. paul on acid, he presents two acid productions on vinyl. in 2020, one of his tracks was released on the hrdflr label for his highly successful versus series. side a, annas rising joy: this track is an ode to joy that i dedicate to my wife and the infinite moments shared. it reminds us of the simplicity and happiness experienced during the first raves where a motley, heterogeneous and strange crowd of individuals met and whose common energy led to a hypnotic fusion in the dance. side b, rabbits run: >late, always late<, the white rabbit runs and goes down the hole. it is of the current urgency vis-a-vis the climate change, with the march of the world towards always more that this piece was born. the white rabbit is always in a hurry, always running because time is accelerating, because time is still missing, pressurized by the world-machine.

brill 90s sound, aim 2 pleez was a label made primarily for n-zo & dj invincible to have an outlet for jungle in the early days of the genre but they definitely leaned more towards the more musical side of the sound. the label didn t last that long but the end result is that the few releases on the label are now very sought after, fetching absurd prices on second hand, and this ep is in particular demand. they are two tracks of immense proportions, that not only appeal to the junglists but to breakbeat hardcore lovers alike. a proper crossover ep that has stood the test of time, sounding just as fresh today as it did back in 1994!

ltd repress! dominik eulberg’s second ep on his label apus apus features the track “roter gitterling“ (eng. basket stinkhorn / red cage) on the a side and „tintenfischpilz“ (engl. octopus stinkhorn / devil s fingers) on the flip side. a. roter gitterling the fleshy red cage of this kind of mushroom reminds of a merging of an upside down shopping string bag and an alien. not allowing any objection, the track strides forward with determination towards a musical interpretation of this strange being. a fulminant kick drum counteracts in a very prosaic way the bitter-sweet pads. in a very narrative fashion the track gathers speed and flocks diverse soundscapes and disembogues in a break of harmonical expanse. conciliatory and in a hedonistic way the bass drum eventually stitches together what belongs to each other. b. tintenfischpilz this bizarre looking extraterrestrial mushroom evokes at first glance the image of a dead octopus or radioactive vegetable. as in a science fiction movie four to six tentacles sprout and raise out of a common stinkhorn and later spread into a star shape look. in an unparalleled manner this stunning progression is executed musically by eulberg with a high degree of elaboration. all done with elegant blend of continuous progression and permanent change the track wreathes itself towards heaven, whereas fragmented melody artifacts pour into the shape of a miraculous emergence.

the mystery artist or cane is the dance floor outlet of funckarma aka don & roel funcken (nl). music for the body but with an increase in cognitive focus, the mystery artist sound has the rawness and darkness of funckarma with a tilt towards techno, electro and acid. >gwane mone< sees the return of the ma after a first release on skam records, with a unique blend of heavy bass lines and offbeat electro rhythms. the a-side starts with the dark slow mood of >jinn<, a track defining the general atmosphere of the record. the pace gets picked up through >oid trazzle<, a modern electro killer with that distinct attention to detail of the funcken brothers. the b-side continues with the mental bass of >gwane mone<, a brooding subbass line accompanies an offbeat rhythm structure. the ep finishes with >ssiwsk<, a track closer to the cane sound and with a distinct intent for the underground dance floor. the gwane mone ep builds up through the four tracks and therefore works equally well as a dj-tool and as an up-tempo home listening record
